MUN is an academic simulation of the UN where students role play as diplomats of countries in different UN committees such as the WHO, World Bank, Security Council and others. The students debate and deliberate over burning global issues while exercising diplomacy through negotiations with fellow delegates and working towards passing a resolution on the given topic on the agenda. Model United Nations provides an excellent platform for students to expand their world view and develop a global perspective. It also develops vital skills that mould them into leaders. Some of the skills, among many others, that they develop, are:
* Public Speaking and Speech Making
* Negotiation Skills
* Persuasive Writing Skills
* Global Knowledge
* Convincing Ability
* Networking Skills
The VHMUN is one of the most sought after and prestigious MUNs and provides students with an excellent opportunity to interact with representatives of various countries. They debate on and discuss world affairs, exchanging ideas and views on the political, social and economic issues prevalent in the world.
In order to make MUNing an enriching experience for students, we need to make them proficient in the various aspects of MUN such as conversations, debates, deliberations and presenting position papers. Hence the introduction of the VHMUN club which will prepare and equip them to face the challenges of an MUN and become competent MUNers through the VHMUN Club Training Programme. This will be conducted through MUN Café sessions held in our school premises.
MUN Café, a brand of Worldview Education Services, Hyderabad, is a global platform for MUN enthusiasts and they jointly host the Harvard Model United Nations (HMUN), India, with the Harvard International Relations Council, Boston, USA. The VHMUN Club Training Programme engages students in an insightful Model United Nations training programme and is open for students from Grades 6 to 8. We believe that starting early helps students to become champion MUNers and gives them an edge over their peers.
The VHMUN Club training program has a total of 8 sessions and one Mock session. The delivery of the programme is a step by step approach to give a detailed understanding of the UN and to develop necessary skills. Since its inception in 2013, the VHMUN Club has been training students using different methods such as:
- Library research
- Using the internet
- Constructive feedback
- Mock sessions
There are two levels for the club
- Beginners level for which the current trainer is Mr Nikunj Agarwal.
- Intermediate level for which presently the trainer is Ms Catherine Bonner.
A soft copy of the MUN handbook is provided to every student, which can be referred to even after the programme concludes.
The programme is delivered by professional trainers who have a number of years of experience. They have served in national and international MUNs in various capacities such as delegates, organisers and Executive Board members where they have facilitated various committee simulations.
The main objectives of the club are to:
- equip every delegate with the necessary skills and knowledge through case studies, mock sessions and MUN videos,
- build successful MUN teams which will represent their respective schools in different conferences,
- groom students to become Model Executive Board members,
- guide the students to organise a highly successful conference which will provide an impactful experience to participants,
- make each delegate a role model for their fellow delegates.
Undisputedly, after such rigorous training, participating students will learn the intricacies of attending MUNs, the procedures that need to be followed during MUN sessions and how to interact with delegates from across the world.
