I am both delighted and honoured to be your chairperson for the duration of this edition of VHMUN’s General Assembly – Third Committee – Social, Cultural and Humanitarian Committee. With fond memories of VHMUN 6 as a delegate, I feel privileged to be granted this opportunity and am eager to witness the debate from the other side of the table. I will be striving to make the proceedings as fascinating and engaging as possible throughout the three days.
Being a seventeen year old with overly versatile ambitions, Model United Nations conferences have been a desperately needed constant in my life for the past few years. I have a wide variety of passions that include entrepreneurship, politics and mathematics.
My sole advice to all the delegates attending would be that they attempt to develop the urge to learn as much as this experience has to offer. When an army of delegates encompass you and besiege you from all sides in the form of questions and you must think immediately to give a prudent answer, the ability to think on your feet that this teaches is unprecedented. When you must somehow lobby and convince a room full of delegates into supporting the resolution you attempt to pass, the salesman it makes you is something conventional education cannot.
The General Assembly allocates to the Third Committee, agenda items relating to a range of social, humanitarian affairs and human rights issues that affect people all over the world. The absolute disregard for human rights is incredible and abominable. Countries are in ruins with their humanitarian situations in shambles. The threat of a dystopian world looms large and the only way through this time of despair is the unity of the world leaders. Of course, that is easier said than done and only time will tell whether this summit will be known as a harbinger of peace or the herald of further tragedy. With the high stakes, all the opposing sides must Syriasly consider Putin their differences Assad.

It is my privilege and pleasure to welcome you to SOCHUM at the VHMUN 7!
A badminton player, an electronic keyboardist, a budding economist and a social worker, I am an ex student of VIBGYOR High – the batch of 2014-15 (ICSE) –from the institution that houses some of my fondest memories! I am currently in the 12th grade, pursuing the IB, at Jamnabai Narsee International School, with Mathematics and Economics as the higher level subjects. I intend to pursue Economics abroad.
My most memorable experience at an MUN was when I was a member of the crisis team at the International Youth Conference (IYC 2016). Besides IYC, I have participated as a delegate at 8 MUNs, including Harvard MUN India (2012), Cathedral MUN (2016) and chaired at the India International MUN (2016).
To the first timers, all I have to say is – shrug off your nervousness! Everyone is sailing in the same boat as you are.Your wonderful journey of MUNs begins with a single speech! Therefore delegates, speak! You never know the talents you will discover by speaking out. SOCHUM invites you to contribute to stimulating debate tactfully, given the gravity of the agendas.Remember that the line that separates aggression and confidence is always blurred. Make your perspective appear convincing, do not impose it on others. Be constructive and make every second of your presence in committee count. Find innovative ways of leading fellow delegates, not managing them!
Having actively participated, as a delegate, in 5 VHMUNs, I am thrilled to be a member of the executive board for its 7th edition! VHMUN has been a life changing experience for me and it is an honor to try to make it the same for you!
All the very best!
